Ogata Gekko (1859-1920) the great artist of Meiji era. Gekko worked as a painter, printmaker and decorator of pottery and lacquer. His favorite subjects were genre scenes from everyday’s life, he also produced many war prints. The print offered here is very rare. Produced in “kacho-e” (birds and flowers). “The Rising Koi (Japanese carp)”, published and printed c. 1910 by Daikokuya (Matsuki Heikichi), print has a red Gekko seal and signature over water-like background. The size is shikishiban 9.8" by 9.6" (surimono format). The print is not trimmed or setdown. Fine impression, excellent, fresh colors and registration, mint condition.
