Catalog note / 解説

This print is kept almost exclusively in shades of blue. Such prints are called "aizuri-e" and were popular in 1830-40s and in the early 20th century. After Utamaro's death, Eizan became the leading artist in the "bijin" (beautiful women) genre. His style is similar to Utamaro's late works, but the beauties in his pictures have the physiognomy closer to reality.
