Courtesan Artist: Koson Format: Chu-tanzakuban tate-e: 14.5" x 5" Subject: The silhouetted profile of a courtesan is visible as she stands on a veranda staring at the sea during sunset. This design belongs to a small number of figurative prints by Koson. The style of this print harks back to the work of Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). For an illustration see 'Crows, Cranes & Camellias', cat# 25 page 53, K44.6 page 194. Publisher: Kokkeido Date: c. 1910 Condition: Fine colors. Full size. Very minor marks. Generally fine state of preservation. Impression: Fine impression with gauffrage.
