Catalog note / 解説
Shiro Kasamatsu print "Red Cherry Blossoms at Josokoji Temple, Kyoto"; self-published 1967; 9.5"x14.5" (Grund, S-85). The self-published prints of Shiro Kasamatsu are closer in spirit to the sosaku hanga movement than to the shin hanga. They tend to be more 'painterly' than his prints for Watanabe which are more akin to drawing. As in many of his other self-published prints, Shiro Kasamatsu has evoked feelings of both serenity and unease. The glowing tree and the temple are juxtaposed with the darkness of the trees to the right. This print is generally in very good condition.
